Section 2.1.3
Lightning Safety Committee Consultation
NLSI can help establish a permanent Lightning Safety Committee (LSC)
at your facility. As a consultant, NLSI will do the following:
- Provide members of the LSC with a comprehensive education in issues
relating to lightning for operational safety. This includes training
in latest methodologies and technologies for: lightning detection and
notification; air terminals, bonding; shielding; transient limiters;
and grounding. The LSC and NLSI will develop a facility-specific Lightning
Safety Guideline, including evacuation standards and inspection/maintenance
standards.
- Provide training for facility inspectors who are responsible to
verify the effectiveness of lightning protection systems on bunkers
and igloos, communications towers, other storage areas, and administrative
buildings. Checklist and guideline documents will be developed for periodic
evaluations of the above.
- Conduct annual lightning safety briefings, as directed, for indoor
and outdoor personnel. Lightning hazards and defenses from their
effects will be presented in a "short course" of 1.5 hours.
- Be available to the LSC for periodic assistance on an as-required
basis.
For more information, please send
email to contact NLSI.
