2000 Lightning Safety Awards
The National Lightning Safety Institute (NLSI), Louisville Colorado
announces winners of the Annual Lightning Safety Recognition Awards.
Recipients are those individuals who provide leadership for lightning
safety issues and who serve as role models for others. This year’s awards
are given in several categories:

Recreation
Christopher Zimmerman, Global Atmospherics Inc., Tucson,
AZ.
For providing objective information about personal safety to
the recreation industry.

US Government (Individual)
Josephine Covino, PhD, Chair - Lightning Protection Working
Group, Department of Defense Explosives Safety Board, Washington
DC.
For leadership in directing the revision of safety document 6055.9.

US Government (Organization)
Grounding and Surge Protection Working Group, Power Systems
Division, Federal Aviation Admin., Washington DC.
For providing objective information to the aviation industry
in FAA-STD-019C/019D.

International (Organization)
Scientific Committee, International Lightning Protection Conference
(ICLP).
For their defense of the scientific approach that supposed improvements
in lightning protection must be verifiable through the independent
third party peer-review process with supportable technical evidence.

The Awards are accompanied by full scholarships to attend NLSI’s intensive
two-day Lightning Safety Workshop. Tuition of $795 is waived.
