Section 6.5.7

NLSI's High Altitude Lightning Observation Station (HALOS) in the Colorado mountains is conducting new experiments:

1. Comparative efficiency of lightning detectors. Which small handheld detector is most accurate when compared with NLDN data? We are investigating three popular brands for detection efficiency and ranging.
2. ESE/DAS/CTS air terminals. Are they able to function as advertised?
• Do ESEs launch streamers in advance of Franklin rods?
• Do CTS/DAS inhibit streamer formation?
